Play.com – Playtrade Marketplace

Every morning I sign for a package from play.com for one of the guys in the office. Play have taken their lead from Amazon and launched Playtrade:

PlayTrade is the new way to make money selling your DVDs, CDs, Books, Games and more to the millions of customers who shop at Play.com. As a PlayTrade seller, your products will appear for sale on the Play.com web site, giving you the benefits that only the UK’s largest entertainment online retailer can offer. We do all the advertising and merchandising, credit card processing and first-line customer care. All you need to do is decide on your price and send the products to the customers promptly.

Whether you have one or one million things to sell, listing them for sale at Play.com couldn’t be simpler. Our step-by-step guidelines will ensure that your products appear on the site within a matter of minutes, and the next time a customer comes to buy that item, they are given the option to buy it from you. We then process their order on your behalf and let you know where to send the product. Once you have sent it out, we pass the proceeds on to you.

Sifting though the news I came across the article eSellerPro plugs into PlayTrade. It seems the first third party system to do so. Go eSellerPro for being on the ball with new integrations!

What has eSellerPro got to say about themselves?

eSellerPro is a complete business management system that integrates the whole online sales process, simplifying and automating tasks such as inventory management, product listing and scheduling, sales order processing, payment and dispatch, customer communications and accounts posting, saving you time and money and leaving you free to concentrate on growing your business.

I happened on this news by chance and I fear it will be lost in the rubble as they don’t have a blog! Shame on you.

Why I love channeladvisor today…

As an automated ebay listing and website storefront system channeladvisor is pretty hot.

Channeladvisor has made my life easier today because:

1. You can get a full export of all of your inventory – all that hard work exported in excel.
2. You can export all customer information (and see if they have opted in to your newsletter or not) for email marketing campaigns.
3. PayPal payments pro and express integration done for you. I still can’t do the paypal payments pro integration on my own website, but I will! Roll on Cubecart 4
4. Automatic feeds to Google Base and Shopzilla
5. Integration with Google Analytics using the e-commerce functionality too (so you can see what leads actually generate complete sales)
6. Export of all sales, all in one go.

That is why I love ChannelAdvisor today.

Vietnamese Survivor shares in ebay success – Express on Sunday

Sieng van Tran from AuctionAssist was featured in the Express on Sunday (5th August). AuctionAssist provides an outsourced ebaying service for individuals, business, retailers and manufacturers, specialising in ‘Big Ticket’ items such as cookers and laptops.

According to their website 56% of brits are self confessed hoarders and as a whole we are hoarding £2.5 billion! I am personally having a clear out and ebay session on friday. After the collapse of Auctioning4u’s drop of stores it seems that AuctionAssist are looking to open nationwide drop of stores. But has not the fall of isoldit taught any lessons? Does AuctionAssist have some magic that auctioning4u and isold it simply did not posses? Will specialising in the big ticket items save their bacon? Tran said he expected to contribute to £100 million of turnover for ebay in the next 24 months in the UK alone. Well I am routing for you and hope you succeed where others have failed. It will be hard to get investors into the franchise though with a few burned fingers already.

The article also mentioned Samedaybooks, as they are set to acquire AuctionAssist this week.

Product Review – Terapeak eBay Market Research

Terapeak is an industry leading ebay researching tool that can break down the sales by keyword and tell you lots and lots of juicy information. Between $14.95 and $24.95 per month as an ebay consultancy this would provide the necessary information to guide and monitor clients.

Some example data:

Searching by the keyword: Hustler Lingerie

Total Sales: £297 Total Listings: 450 Successful Listings: 27
Total Bids: 42 Items Offered: 478 Items Sold: 28
Bids per Listing: 0.09 Sell-Through: 6.00% Sellers per Day: 4

It also tells me the highest price sold item was £24.50, and that Thursday between 10 and 11pm is the best time. So looking at the sell though rate of this item I would not waste by ebay fee’s trying to sell it!

The Industry Leader for eBay Research

Terapeak, an eBay Certified Provider, was founded in 2002 by brothers Anthony and Andrew Sukow while running their eBay Power Seller business. Terapeak then quick established itself as the industry leader for eBay Research by being the first to provide eBay seller, eBay category, eBay Motors P&A, and eBay international research.

Terapeak is also the only company to focus exclusively on eBay research. Terapeak places focus on education, innovation and the customer experience. Terapeak also boasts the largest customer base for eBay research and is the fastest growing eBay research company.

Rating 9/10 – I like it and it gives me the heads up fast. Also a great tool if you are thinking of starting an ebay channel for your business. You need to know your products sell well or the marketplace is not over saturated with your product or selling too low for you to make a profit!

Optimising a Channeladvisor Store

Channeladvisor is a great listing tool for larger companies who need an automated solution for eBay and Amazon (and Overstock in the US). To add value it also has a store/website attachment with cname capabilities so you can run a website and ebay all together. Channeladvisor also provides feeds to shopping comparison sites such as Google Base, Shopzilla and Kelkoo but to name a few.

The channeladvisor store is by far the weakest point in channeladvisor as a ‘one solution e-commerce’ system and you have limited obvious SEO control.

(For all of this I am going to assume you are already logged into channel management)

Header Information:

HTML Titles: These are important and within channeladvisor you can specify the main page title in stores>store name and logo.

Meta Keywords: Pick 10 keywords to focus on that cover you main products. For example Rubbergirls-Blue-Boutique sells lingerie and shoes so the main keywords focused on are:
Leg Avenue, Dreamgirl, Vollers, Axfords, Sensual Mystique, Pleaser, Demonia, Hustler, Vacari, Bridal Lingerie, Wedding Lingerie, Nuptial Lingerie, Sexy Costumes, Fetish Lingerie, Corset

Place these keywords in your categories also as you have the opportunity to add in keywords for each category ( store>manage categories – click on the category name)

Meta Description: Its not just HTML titles and keywords a search engine picks up on it is also the meta description. Make sure you add a main page description in store name and logo AND a description for you categories.

This is the main listing in Google for the above website:

RubberGirls Blue Boutique | Bridal Corsetry | Hen Night Fancy

Rubbergirls Blue Boutique Provides excellent pricing for gothic, alternative and exotic clothing and footwear. Our brands include Leg Avenue,
www.rubbergirls-blue-boutique.co.uk/ – 61k

Header Image: Make sure you use the alt functionality for your header image too

Item Details :

Within channeladvisor you store title precedes the HTML title and becomes searchable on google. You can make sure you repeat a main keyword in your item titles, in fact you could possible squeeze more keywords in there! this title formation look familiar? Its the same title format as you would use in ebay. Tanked full of keyword goodness.

Keyword Links:

Google along with many other search engines like keyword links like Cybergoth Hair Extensions. Make sure you name your categories and sub categories appropriately with a good keyword and go to store>manage store layouts>home page layout and make sure you choose the option to display all your sub categories on the main page. Instant keyword links. ( P.S Make sure you have added an image to each or your categories or it could look a little dull)

Shopping Comparison:

To get ahead with google use google services! Google base is a free classifieds and syndicated everyday from automatically from channeladvisor (Console> Shopping comparison)

Other shopping comparison feeds can be used but they are pay per click

Track your results:

See what is going on with google analytics, sign up for an account and make sure you enter the information in store>store tracking. If you know what’s going on you can improve your SEO campaign

Every piece of software is what you make it and channeladvisor is no different.

P.S Rubbergirls Blue Boutique is MY store and also designed by me, if you want to know how I changed the layout then email me at liz@kidsontalks.com and if I have the time I will tell you.
